Musical instrument making course
5 days 7-11th July & 18-22nd August

Ever had the urge to make a music all of your own? Why not try a course in instrument making. The course will last for five days during which time you could make a lyre (ancient stringed instrument similar to a harp) or an mbira (African thumb piano). You will start with the raw materials (wood and metal) and will be coached in the processes which turn these ingredients into instruments .In the workshop you will choose and cut the timber to size. Using hand tools in the roundhouse you will fashion this wood into the body of the instrument. At John the blacksmiths workshop you will forge the metal components from recycled scrap metal. Then you will assemble the instrument and finally tune and play them. These instruments, made of wood from a sustainable source and scrap metal will be 100% ethical and 100% your own.
